This is a little run i found not 5 mins from my house here in Tupelo. It is only runnable after a big rain and in the warm months it only stays good for a day- if there is flooding in the area it is awesome. Roadside, It contains a 5 or 6 ft slide and a fun little hole that gets bigger and bigger with more rain. There's a big sandbar at this playspot to chill out on.
Once you get tired of this spot go on down for about 300 yards through little wave trains and flatwater until you see the horizon line and hear the roar. Get out on river right to scout. This is a twelve foot slide into a very sticky but harmless hole. Below it is a huge pool. Make sure not to run this far left. There's a big tree down on the left and could pose a threat. I've gone in and cut all of the branches off though, so there's just a huge log there now.
There are more playspots farther downriver but these two can be walked to from your car, no problem. If you're interested in knowing about the rest email me @
bassgiddy16@yahoo.com This run is the only whitewater i know about in MS and is only an hour and a half from Memphis.
Directions from Memphis: take 78 east to Tupelo. Straight shot to Tupelo. Take the Belden / McCoullough Blvd. exit. Make sure to go over the overpass to the loop exit. If you take the one right before the overpass you'll be heading into Tupelo.
Once you take the exit you'll be on McCoullough Blvd. heading towards Macedonia,(there won't be Macedonia sign). Not 200 yards from the exit is the bridge. Pull over and park in the gravel spot on the side of the road BEFORE the bridge. Walk back up the road like 10 or 15 yards and you'll see the fourwheeler trail on the left that takes you to the first playspot.
I only know of a handfull of school friends and a guy from AL that know about this place. Its Mississippi's best kept secret. There's also 1 other play run 15 mins north of Tupelo that only runs on flood water but has bigger holes than Macedonia. email me if you want to know about it
