UT Roll Class
« on: October 03, 2007, 09:44:31 AM »
I would like to attend the roll class tonight. Where is the pool located exactly? Do I need to make any reservations or anything?

Class starts at 6:30.  You can get there around 6:15 or so if you want, I should have the door open.

Directions: Going west (toward downtown) on Union Ave. cross over 240. The hospital will be on your right. Stay on Union until you get to Manassas (stay in right hand lane). Take a right on Manassas (north). Go through one stop light (Madison). Turn right into the next drive off of Manassas into UT Med. Follow the drive around and you will see a loading dock on the right and white posts on the left. You can park anywhere there is room (after 5 you will not get a ticket - I promise) or park in the parking garage ahead on the left (watch your boats - low ceiling). Unload your boat and walk down the steps on the right and turn left into the indoor pool. It is marked as N 13 on the map located on the UT Website: http://www.utmem.edu/map/

Can someone let Michael know I'm going to be there but will be a little late.  I'm just leaving work now, gotta drive to G'town to let the dog out, and then drive down to the class.

Roll Class was good tonight.  6 people showed up but one was boatless since all of the RPM's there need some backband work.

Kelly Nicole got her roll on her first try and did not miss one till she started on her off side roll.  She got her offside shortly there after.  I was impressed.

Good teaching skills go a long way!!  Thanks for imparting the knowledge.  I'm looking forward to putting it to use.

Hi everyone,
Last weekend I took one of my new friends kayaking on the 11 point river in MO...class 1 rapids which worked out nicely since it was her first time kayaking.  She is interested in coming on Wednesday to learn how to roll...how much is the first lesson?
By the way, we both ended up swimming when we both were swept into a big tree...on impact I lost my paddle somehow (still not sure how that happend) and I missed my roll, but it was fun anyway.  It took me quite some time to catch up to my boat and paddle, though.  Thank goodness for wet suits!
See some of you Wed.

Roll class.

To come in and use the pool, it is $10.

If you want instruction, it is an additional $15 for the first class, $10 for the second and $5 for the 3rd.

Usually what happens is the person gets their roll during the first class and just comes to use the pool after that.
