Rockport Ledge, Ouachita River, Malvern, AR
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:59:19 PM »
Park and play spot about 2:45 minutes drive from the Memphis bridge.
Most groups meet at the West Memphis Pilot truckstop at I-40 exit 280
(be aware there is another Pilot located near I-55)

driving directions:
I-40 west to Little Rock
Take exit 159, West on I-440 toward Texarkana
After 10 miles, I-440 will merge into I-30 toward Hot Springs/Texarkana
Take I-30 Exit 98A toward Malvern
Between the McDonalds and the Wendy's, there will be a brown sign for "Rockport Whitewater Park"
Take that right, River Creek Dr.
The road leads around the Wal-Mart, at the dead end, go left on South River Creek Drive.
At the dead end, take right on Riverview Drive.
Proceed under expressway bridge.
The river park will be obvious.
Bathrooms available.

From the start time of the release, it generally takes about 2.5 hours for the water to begin to arrive and 3 hours to be at full flow at the ledge.  Be aware, that as the water is rising and dropping, two of the surf spots on river left can become quite sticky... not that I would know.

For Mexican food:
1) La Hacienda at I-30 exit 117 and use service road along expressway.  good but dry.
2) El Chico at I-30 exit 133.  good and not dry.   :-D

How to Receive Email Updates on Water Release Plans for Remmel and Carpenter Dams

As a public service to the recreational users of Lakes Hamilton and Catherine and the Ouachita River below Remmel Dam, Entergy Hydro Operations periodically issues an e-mail of the current operational plans for Carpenter and Remmel Dams. This short e-mail provides general guidance on when we plan to release water from the dams, which affects both the levels of the river below the dams and, to a lesser extent, the levels of the lakes. This information can be useful in planning recreational outings for fishing and floating downstream. This e-mail is typically issued once each week or more often if conditions change (less often if conditions have not changed)..
