Starry Nights at Shelby Farms
« on: October 01, 2009, 10:35:26 AM »
The Shelby Farms Conservancy is returning Starry Nights to Shelby Farms this year.  Many in this group may not even remember Starry Nights as it has been gone for about 10 years.

It is a Christmas lighting display that is done all along the road from Patriot Lake up to Pine Lake.  In the past, it was the premier Christmas light show in Memphis.   You would load everybody in the car (the fee is done per carload), you would get a special cassette tape that played Christmas music while you went through the display.  (Do most of you remember cassette tapes?) All proceeds go to Shelby Farms Park.  Traffic going into Starry Nights usually would back up to and onto Walnut Grove. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/jul/31/starry-nights-aglow-02/

Now that you know what it is...they need volunteers to run the event.  They are asking all the user groups to volunteer for one night.  It takes 20 people each night.  If Memphis Whitewater could come up with 20 and take a full night  that would be great.  If, however, we could only come up with 10, we could share a night with another user group.  The off-leash society has volunteered for Dec 2 but they only have 6.  I am asking if any in this group would be willing to spend a great evening having fun with flashlights at Shelby Farms?  Please just reply to this thread if you would be willing.  I will start off by saying Dec 2 which is a Wednesday night.  If we get a big number of volunteers, maybe we might want to switch to another date only for MW.

I am already committed to two other nights, one with the Memphis Hightailers and Christmas Eve with the Temple Israel Brotherhood.

As long as I can hire some employees by then, I'll be glad to help.

There is actually an opening for an elf to take pictures with Santa Claus!  I asked Brad or Mike to try and post the sign up sheet for Dec 2. It's in power point and I don't know how.

If you are willing to do this, you have to commit soon.  This can't be last minute decision, because the volunteer coordinator needs to know who's going to be there and when, so we have to make the committment soon.  If you think you can do this, sign up (reply) now. :-D
