I have never introduced myself
« on: October 21, 2009, 04:26:18 PM »
I have been on the board now for several months and I have even made a few post. I am sorry I never introduced myself. I have been an avid outdoorsman my whole life. I love to Bike both road and trail. I enjoy running and have run numerous marathons and triathlons. I have been canoing for years. This last spring I bought my first kayak. I own an Old Town Rush. I felt it was a great starter boat. Learning to roll it has been a challenge. Maybe I should have taken a class.  I was in the Army for several years and served in Airborn Units. I enjoy adventure and would love to do an Eco/adventure type race. It seems every time there is a meeting on Thursday nights I have to do payroll for my business.

I look forward to meeting you all and growing my skills.

Welcome...and thanks for the intro.

I also have an OT rush rec boat, and I love it!  They are great boats, and it, too, was my first boat.  Bought mine new about 5 years ago.  Taking my OT rush down class II for the first time wet my appetite to try whitewater, which I did!

The reason why you are probably having difficulty rolling it, is because the rush is designed to be EXTREMELY STABLE!  You know, cooler full of beer, fishing rods, gear and sandwiches-on-the-deck-type-of-stable.  Rolling one is probably doable with outfitting, a "real" spray skirt, adequate flotation, and perfect technique, but it certainly won't roll as easy as a boat designed for whitewater paddling due to the wide base and flatter hull shape.  Also, there is absolutely no outfitting inside it except for adjustable foot pegs that your feet slide off easily.  I have never tried to roll mine.....that is....intentionally ;)
