FYI: There are a handful of MW folks headed down to Vicksburg for the BluzCruz on Saturday (
http://www.bluzcruz.com/
). This is a 22 mile race that ends in downtown Vicksburg. This is a pretty stretch of the Mississippi and a well organized race.

That sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm staying in town and doing the Montessori Race. 2 miles is probably closer to reality for me than 22 miles

That is compelling . . . But I'm already all signed up for the Montessori race. Good luck!
Re: long races, I may do the Syllamo race this year (or at least the 10 miler portion)
Have fun - hope to see a few of you tomorrow morning in the harbor.

Conditions couldn't have been much better: partly cloudy, smooth water, just enough breeze to cool you off a little. And we got the race in before it got too warm--I'm guessing it was mid-70s when I reached the finish. As I headed home in the mid-afternoon, my car's thermometer read 86 degrees.
Second overall was the Natchez-based tandem team of Keith Benoist and Melissa Morrison. Phil was third, nicely holding off Joe and Carol Lee Royer in their K2. Defending champion Jason Salomon rounded out the top five. Coming in a while later were Linda Weghorst, Sonny Salomon, and Fred Hatler. Six of these folks, plus yours truly, hail from the greater Memphis area, and I doubt there was any one place better represented.
I expect the results will be posted sometime this week--keep an eye on

It was one of those remarkable days on the river. The northerly breeze made you forget where you were and how fast you were going. If you took your eye off the horizon, you would think you were paddling across a duck pond. Vincent, you might remember Gary Simon from Milwaukee. He's an older guy who was at Phatwater...he and I had a personal race. He caught me and passed me. I caught him and passed him and held him off about 100 yards all the way up the Yazoo. Saturday aftenoon, I felt like I had been hit by a truck! I swore I wasn't going to race, but you get there and everybody's psyched and they shoot the gun. The next time I don't want to race, I won't take a boat!
Speaking of Gary, he told me he was leaving Vicksburg to go to Asheville for another race...this coming weekend! I had never heard of this one. It is a two day stage race on the French Broad. We should go there next year:

Glad you had a good race and day Sonny. My schedule would not let me be off that much to go to Vicksburg; so another Maria M. race for me.
I checked out the Ashville race and it does look like a great race to do next year; Like the idea of a 2-Day stage race.
Planning on going to Batesville this weekend; it was good race last year and would like to make up for a very poor race last year. It a an easily doable day trip. The Scouts did a good job of a big feed afterwards last year.
Anyone else plan on going?

Vince,
I want to do Batesville. I, too, thought it was a good race last year.
Only problem is that I babies and no sitter. Caissa isn't ready for an 8 miler.
If anyone is going with a shuttle bunny who would be willing to double as a sitter bunny for an hour and a half, I'll gladly pay the going rate and treat for shakes at bulldog's afterwards. If not, I'll just stay and train here for the Outdoors race.
