Weather should be a bit nicer for boatball.  Les humidity and a slight breeze out of the north for a change.

Come out and play!

If you paddle like a girl then you must be pretty good!

Is there room for a couple guys in rec boats, or should we wait until we have whitewater boats?

I'm supposed to go pick up my new (used) playboat this weekend.  However, my brother-in-law and I would both be interested in playing tomorrow with our rec boats if that wouldn't complicate things too much.  If the rec boats are too cumbersome and wouldn't suit the game very well, however, just let us know and we'll ask again when we're better equipped.

Thanks,
Jesse

Jesse,
You can play.  You will need a helmet and PFD to play.

One guy played in a rec boat for a couple of weeks this spring.  He actually did pretty good in it.

Michael:

Cool ... we'll see you there.

I was planning on buying a helmet anyway, so I'll just buy it sooner, rather than later.  I've got a few pfd's that'd work, but I may go ahead and upgrade that tomorrow as well!

Tim,
Gotta get your priorities straight, man. Remember that sage advice: "We don't need no education, we don't need no thought control..." :-D

Just a little FYI:
I have to leave early to go to a Boy Scout meeting which starts at 7PM.  If I leave at 7 I get there around 7:30 which is okay.  If the game starts as late as it has been starting, I just have to leave.  Sorry.

I got a call yesterday from Sandie Daniels, who is the user group coordinator for Shelby Farms.  She got a complaint (from the ranger, I guess) that we are leaving the lake too late.  I told her that I was leaving 1st so had no idea about it.  I told her to call Vincent since he is usually last to leave.  Vincent may have more to say about that.   Just wanted everyone to know to plan on leaving on time tonight.

I'm coming to the lake today, but please don't hold up the game for me, like you guys did last week.  I will probably get into the boat and paddle around the lake for a little while, but I'm not comfortable getting my cut wet yet, especially in that water, so won't be playing.

Hope to see everyone there  8-)

I have been playing phone tag with Sandee so not sure about all this.
We are definitely not the last folks to leave, though we admittedly do push to the edge of this. On regular basis I count how many cars are still in the parking lot when i leave and there are 10-15 almost all the time. (Why do i count? I figured eventually it would come to a complaint)  I consistently note when sundown is and try to be out the gate before actual sundown.  That said I cannot speak as the last person out in our group all the time.
We are a regular notable/identifiable group that can be spoken about so surprised? No!
Do i like this? No! I will try to deal with this in positive way.
From the other side my profession often makes me the last person to leave the building and it can be rather annoying to have to wait for the same people to pack it in when they know it is time to leave.

I will bring the equipment but cannot get in the water until my stitches are out on Sept 13.
Peace vincent/shamen

Here is a copy of the note that Vincent and I got today from Sandie.  I agree with Vincent.  I doubt that we are the last ones to leave....but since we have kayaks we are an easy to identify group.  I wasn't there late last night so I don't know what time we left, but let's just try to be positive, cooperative,  and wave good night to the ranger with the whole hand please.

Hi Vincent and Sonny,

I had called you both because I wanted to check in with you about your Tuesday evening Boatball events.  On several occasions the Rangers have mentioned that the group does not recognize their requests to begin wrapping things up at park closing.  We have about 12 gates that have to be cleared and closed and so the Rangers have to begin announcing 30 minutes before sunset.  Please keep in mind that they have to travel miles around from gate to gate, locate visitors on the trails, etc. etc.  My main concern was that as a PARC user group, there is an expectation that we have formed a partnership with your group.  From the comments the Rangers have made to me about the attitude of certain Boatball group members, it doesn’t sound like things are running smoothly, at least from the Rangers’ perspective.  Your support in complying with park policy not only sets an example for others, but also assists in minimized ranger overtime expenses to the Conservancy.  Let me know if you have feedback or comments on the above.  As always, we greatly appreciate your cooperation!

Best,

Sandee

Sounds like the Rangers are fond of us.  Guess Vincent needs to stop telling them when sunset is.

What is the job of a SF Ranger?  They sure do not seem to be around until the sun starts going down.  It sure would be nice if the Rangers were as vocal about feeding ducks and geese as they are about the park closing.
