USCA Aluminum Canoe Nationals in Arkansas
« on: June 09, 2010, 10:12:55 PM »
The Aluminum canoe nationals will be held in Pocahontas, AR on the Current/Black river. There will be mens, womens and junior men and women classes. So dust off those old aluminum canoes and head on over to Pocahontas on July 3rd.  On July 4th there will be a Pro race with prize money for the fastest team in a USCA spec 3x27 proboat.

To sweeten the pot for the juniors.  In addition to the travelling trophy and USCA medals, the top junior men and junior women teams will recieve a very nice paddle bag.

There's now a new bunch of aluminum canoe national champions for 2010: Casey Rickey/Stephen Lynn, Ruth Perkins/Lori Sayger, Dale Burris/Rocky Caldwell, Jared King/Christopher Williams, Donna Short/Becky Burris, and Sara Davis/Amber Parnell.  Results are posted here:

For my part, I'll just say that you haven't lived until you've pushed an aluminum canoe up and down a river for 11 or so miles on a 90+ degree day.  My partner Clifton Rickey and I brought up the rear in the men's masters class, but the positive spin is that we're the fifth-best masters aluminum canoeists in the whole United States, and anybody who might have proven otherwise wasn't there to do it.
Thanks to Clifton and the town of Pocahontas for hosting this event.
