ALL MEMPHIS AREA EXPLORERS
« on: July 22, 2010, 10:00:22 AM »
Any real explorers out there? I want to do a reconnaisance trip down the Coldwater from Byhalia Rd. (Hwy 309) to Hwy 178. I will be collecting gps coordinates on all river blockages that need to be opened up and taking notes and photos for a full write-up. This Saturday, July 24, 8:00 a.m.
If interested, give me a call: Mike Womack-901-496-0679
NOTE: This is not yet a "navigable" waterway and I predict many obstacles and portages. Good boat control and strong health is required.

If you were doing this Sunday morning, I'd be all over it!  I've driven over those bridges a million times and always wondered about it.  Too bad though, cuz I'm stuck at work this saturday....

Pretty sure that Eddie is going to Rockport with us Sunday to throw down in his new playboat.
If you paddle like a girl then you must be pretty good!

I'll be camping with the Cub Scouts this weekend.

Justin and I paddled from 309 to 178 Sunday. The river was lower than I've ever been on it before but I was pleasantly surprised with the lack of log jams. Not saying we didn't get our fill of log boofs and other forms of creative log-crossing. We were on the river a solid hour before our first mandatory portage. There is one section that is full of downed trees but we somehow managed to scrape and wedge our way through most of it. On the entire trip, I think we had to portage maybe 4 times, none of which were difficult... step out, throw your boat over a log, step back in and take off. Great trip! I'll post photos, etc. later.

Great Trip!  It is amazing just how remote you feel in the middle of that!  I look forward to more trips down that section and farther.

Beautiful scenery

A minor log jam

There was definitely a determination to make it over the logs instead of portage!  And we did have some interesting times getting over, under, and digging through some of the jams.

Note to self, bring a Saw next time...
