Saw a blurb and some pictures about this on the Arkie site.

Here's a article on it.

Anybody got $4million and a river we could do this on?

Anyway we could sneak this into the SF Master Plan?

I was thinking you could buy the Pyramid and build one HELL of a nice park in there.. Wouldn't it be cool to flow water off the side and ride it to the bottom.. hahahaha

apparently the Trinity is a pretty dirty river.  I saw an earlier article on this that had the same circular conversation that's been held around here forever...

"that river isn't used for recreation so we don't need to spend any funds to clean it up."

"that river is so polluted I won't use it recreationally."

I guess they got past that circle jerk...
Mind if I join you in that one boat eddy?

well, one side did. the dallas news says the human & animal waste concentrations in that section are about 170% of acceptable levels. there seems to be an assumption that if folks start using the facility then cleanup will automatically follow, but there doesn't seem to be any guarantee of that.
I get an "if you build it they'll come and boat, regardless of the water quality"  impression from what I've read, and the quotes from local boaters seems to give it merit.

Sorry for getting in on this late but here is what I have said before.
It will not happen unless some folks get behind it and do the work. Organize!  Organize!  Organize!
Locally this happened in the last several years with 2 seemingly small groups working their butt off.
Disc Golf: If you have not been paying attention to this locally you are living under a rock. This year the largest competition in the world is happening here  (Shelby Forrest & Shelby Farms). Go walk around the disc golf course at Shelby Farms and see what they have done on their own and then the Powers To Be got on the band wagon. And the plans continue to expand.
Skate Park: these folks organized with what would seem to be the most unlikely a group of folks to organize. Road blocks of huge portion were put in front of them and they never gave up. There is going to be a significant skate park in Memphis with the funding almost entirely from the government.
WE COULD LEARN FROM THEM!!!!!!!!!
As for the White in Dallas: there is pretty good race on the White. Yeah it is dirty but a miracle is not likely to occur to clean it up over night. It will be cleaned up when folks do the work. Organize!  Organize!
Peace vincent/shamen
